Revitalising Alice Springs and Creating Jobs: Tender Released for New Hospital Staff Accommodation

Developers have been invited to submit tenders for the construction of a unit complex containing 70 residential units for lease by NT Health for Alice Springs Hospital (ASH) staff accommodation.

The project will provide Central Australia Health Service (CAHS) with approximately 70 modern 1, 2, and 3 bedroom apartments within close proximity to the Alice Springs Hospital, which will greatly enhance CAHS ability to attract and retain health professionals.

This massive project would assist in revitalising the Alice Springs CBD, whilst also creating jobs and providing a much needed stimulus to the local economy.

Construction will be fully funded by the developer, who will then directly lease the units to Central Australian Health Service (CAHS), or sell the units, and CAHS will lease from the new owner(s). The initial lease period will be 10-years, with an option to extend.

The tender will be undertaken in 2 stages, with the first stage calling for Expressions of Interest from developers, and second stage being a detailed tender submission from the pre-selected tenderers from stage 1.

Expressions of interest are now open with construction expected to commence in late 2019.

Tenderers will be required to submit an Industry Participation Plan, and will need to comply with the NTG “Buy Local” policy. Tenderers will also be assessed on the level of local contractors and supply vendors for the project.

Comment from Minister for Health, Natasha Fyles:

The Territory Labor Government’s number one priority is creating jobs.

In addition to the job creation and economic stimulus brought about during the construction phase, the project will create long term benefits for the Alice Springs CBD and economy through bringing people and potentially new businesses into the city

It is expect a project of this magnitude will generate a significant amount of jobs for locals.

This will be an industry led development in regard to what will be offered above and beyond the NTG’s requirement for 70 residential units.

Comment from Member for Braitling, Dale Wakefield:

This project will create jobs and boost the local Alice economy, while ensuring our hard working staff at the Alice Springs Hospital have suitably close accommodation.

This will help retain our hard working health professionals while making it that much easier to attract more doctors, nurses and health professionals to Alice Springs.
