Bringing Back the Arafura Games: Expressions of Interest for Opening and Closing Celebrations

Minister for the Arafura Games, Ken Vowles, is calling for event producers to put forward their Expressions of Interest to produce the Opening and Closing Celebrations of the Games.

The Opening Celebration will take place on the evening of Friday, April 26, before the sporting competition kicks off the following morning on Saturday, April 27.

The Closing Celebration will take place on the evening of Sunday, May 5, once the sporting competition has wrapped up.

The simple Expression of Interest process will identify event producers who have the capacity to deliver the two celebrations within a total budget of $500,000.

The Expression of Interest opens today, Monday, July 30, and closes on Thursday, August 16.

Quotes from Minister Ken Vowles:

“We made an election promise to bring back the Arafura Games and they will return from April 26 to May 5 next year.

“The Opening and Closing Celebrations will create local jobs and celebrate the connection between the nations competing in the Arafura Games and the Northern Territory, as well as showcase our incredible arts and culture sector.

“The Territory is full of creative people and this Expression of Interest process will allow us to identify suitable event producers.

“This is a real opportunity for Territorians to have their work seen on the national and international stage.”

Quotes from Assistant Minister for Bringing Back the Arafura Games, Kate Worden:

“The Opening and Closing Celebrations will take place at an iconic Top End location – the beautiful Darwin Waterfront, so event producers will have plenty of space and inspiration to guide their ideas.

“Holding the Celebrations at the Waterfront will activate the CBD and create a buzz for local businesses, bringing more locals and visitors to the area.”
