Minister for Sport and Recreation, Karl Hampton and Alice Springs Mayor, Damien Ryan, today inspected the progress of work to build a new multi-million dollar aquatic and leisure centre in
Mr Hampton said the $14.2 million Alice Springs Aquatic and Leisure Centre stage two tender was awarded to Sitzler earlier this year and major excavation work is now complete.
“The Territory Government continues to deliver first class sport and recreation facilities for all Territorians to enjoy,” Mr Hampton said.

“Sitzler is one of the largest privately owned construction companies in the Territory – originating in
“The Centre will provide a year-round exercise and recreation centre for competition and fitness swimmers alike once complete.
“Stage one – which includes a new paddle pool and learn-to-swim pool - was opened last year and is already proving popular with the people of
“The Territory Government committed $8.1 million to the Aquatic Centre development, together with $4 million each from the Australian Government and the Aboriginal Benefit Account.”

Stage Two of the Alice Springs Aquatic Centre development will include:
· A heated indoor 8 lane, 25m swimming lap pool with disabled ramp access;
· A beach front leisure pool which will include toddler area, spa, lazy river and also incorporates a four lane 20 metre learn-to-swim section with disable ramp access; and
· Upgraded kiosk/café reception, administration, club room, storage rooms and amenities.
