Perth Lynx To Host Logan Thunder In Darwin

Top End basketball fans are in for a WNBL treat with Perth Lynx hosting Logan Thunder at Marrara on Saturday.

Sports Minister Karl Hampton today said the round six WNBL game is part of the Territory Government’s $180,000 commitment over three years to bring top class women’s basketball to the Territory.

“The Territory Government continues to invest in our first class facilities so we can stage top class events and this weekend’s WNBL match will be very exciting,” Mr Hampton said.

“I am delighted that the WNBL is returning to Darwin and I am wishing our adopted team Perth Lynx all the best to record their first win at Marrara.

“The Perth Lynx have been playing in Darwin for the past few years and I urge Territory sports fans to cheer our adopted team to their first victory at their home away from home.

“A win for Logan could shoot them into the top four so they will also have plenty to play for.

“The Women’s National Basketball League is considered to be one of the best women’s basketball competitions in the world, second only to the WNBA in the United States, so no matter the result, there will be a lot of top quality basketball on display in Darwin this weekend.

“Territory sports fans saw how basketball can be everyone’s game with the NBL’s Top End Challenge successfully held at Marrara last month.

“The Territory Government is proud to host top class sports events at our first class sport facilities and I am sure there will be a strong crowd at Marrara on Saturday, 7 November.”

Mr Hampton said Perth Lynx will participate in several community engagements during their time in Darwin such as junior coaching clinics and visits to schools, hospitals and remote communities.
